Senior Accountant (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cleantech organization in München seeking a Senior Accountant to build a professional, scalable, and audit-ready accounting function alongside the Head of Finance. You will play a pivotal role in structuring knowledge, standardizing processes, and driving automation over the coming years, with a clear path toward leading the accounting team.

Accounting & Financial Close:

• Oversee and continuously improve day-to-day financial accounting operations
• Prepare and ensure quality of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under HGB
• Manage balance sheet accounting, valuation, and accrual topics
• Conduct and review account reconciliations
• Ensure complete and compliant bookkeeping

Tax & Compliance:

• Handle domestic and international VAT matters
• Support tax-related inquiries and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
• Serve as point of contact for tax advisors and auditors

Process Optimization & Digitalization:

• Analyze and enhance existing accounting processes
• Build and document an accounting manual
• Implement efficient closing and control procedures
• Develop the system landscape and identify automation opportunities

Audit & Governance:

• Prepare for and support annual audits
• Establish a robust internal control system
• Ensure high data and reporting quality
• Contribute to investor, bank, and due diligence requests

Leadership & Development:

• Provide technical guidance and coaching to accounting team members
• Transfer knowledge and mentor less experienced colleagues
• Take on functional and disciplinary leadership of financial accounting over time

What We're Looking For

• Completed qualification as Bilanzbuchhalter, Steuerfachwirt, or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax
• Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a mid-sized company, scale-up, or auditing firm
• Strong knowledge of HGB accounting standards and proven experience preparing annual financial statements
• Solid understanding of VAT law and experience supporting financial audits
• Proficiency with DATEV and ERP systems; experience with Odoo is a plus
• High technical competence and ability to work independently while actively building structures and processes
• Pragmatic approach combined with high quality standards
• Hands-on mentality and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic growth environment
• Strong communication skills, team orientation, and passion for knowledge transfer and employee development
• Fluency in German is required for this role; English proficiency is valued
