About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential government technology organization seeking a Senior FinOps Analyst to manage cloud financial operations across a large, multi-tenant AWS environment. This remote position offers the opportunity to turn cloud spending data into actionable insights that drive cost optimization while maintaining system performance and reliability.

You'll work at the intersection of finance, engineering, and cloud operations—establishing FinOps practices that make cloud costs transparent, predictable, and actionable across the organization.

Responsibilities

Cost Optimization and Resource Right-Sizing:

  • Analyze utilization data to identify right-sizing opportunities across EC2, RDS, EBS, ELB, and container workloads
  • Develop prioritized recommendations with quantified savings and partner with engineering teams to implement changes
  • Identify idle, orphaned, and overprovisioned resources and coordinate remediation
  • Manage Reserved Instance and Savings Plan strategy, including coverage analysis and lifecycle management
  • Reduce storage costs through lifecycle policies, intelligent tiering, and snapshot management
  • Establish continuous optimization processes integrated into day-to-day operations

Consolidated Cost Reporting and Analysis:

  • Build and maintain monthly cost reports covering spend, usage trends, and optimization opportunities
  • Design and manage chargeback and showback models with clear cost attribution
  • Implement and enforce consistent cost-allocation tagging strategies across the AWS estate
  • Develop executive dashboards and program-level scorecards for spending visibility
  • Perform root-cause analysis on cost anomalies and communicate findings to finance and engineering
  • Support cost governance across multi-account AWS Organizations environments including GovCloud

Forecasting and Budget Management:

  • Develop fiscal-year cloud spend projections and monthly burn-rate views
  • Model cost impact of architectural changes and new workload onboarding
  • Monitor budget utilization, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions
  • Support annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasts
  • Configure and manage AWS Budgets and Cost Anomaly Detection

Governance and FinOps Practice:

  • Participate in cloud architecture reviews and provide cost estimates for design decisions
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and cloud governance frameworks
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align cloud financial strategy with organizational objectives
  • Advance FinOps maturity through training, playbooks, and standardized processes
  • Automate recurring cost analysis and reporting using Python or SQL

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, Master's with 6 years, or High School diploma with 12 years
  • 5+ years of financial analysis experience with at least 3 years focused on AWS cost management
  • Proven experience implementing resource right-sizing at scale with quantified outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience producing consolidated cost reports, chargeback models, and fiscal projections
  • Experience participating in cloud architectural reviews and providing cost estimates
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional
  • AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect Associate, or Cloud Financial Management specialty)
  • Experience with third-party FinOps platforms such as Apptio Cloudability, CloudHealth, or Vantage
  • Experience in multi-account AWS Organizations environments with consolidated billing and GovCloud
  • Multi-cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and container cost allocation tools
  • Experience supporting FedRAMP, FISMA, or DoD-accredited environments
