Senior Network Automation Engineer (EU)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential global NaaS organization seeking a Senior Network Automation Engineer to join their European team. Our client is a publicly-traded technology leader with operations across multiple continents, partnering with major cloud and infrastructure providers. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to work on complex network automation challenges in a collaborative, remote-first environment.

This role is based in Germany or the United Kingdom and offers flexible working arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and maintain network automation systems and internal tooling built on a Perl code base
• Implement new features using modular design principles with comprehensive automated testing and code coverage reporting
• Identify and reduce technical debt while improving platform performance, reliability, and scalability
• Build and maintain secure, scalable RESTful APIs with proper versioning, standards adherence, and monitoring
• Contribute to the release process through rigorous code reviews, reliable test authoring, and CI/CD pipeline enhancements
• Mentor junior engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and technical coaching
• Provide architectural and design guidance for small project teams

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of software development experience using Perl and frameworks such as Mojolicious
• Strong experience with relational databases using SQL, preferably PostgreSQL
• Working knowledge of distributed datastores and NoSQL technologies (Cassandra or similar)
• Proven track record building backend services and tools within web application ecosystems
• Experience maintaining scalable, versioned, secure REST APIs
• Understanding of networking concepts including IP routing and MPLS
• Ability to serve as technical lead for small development teams (typically up to 4 developers)
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong logical reasoning abilities with skill in asking insightful questions and explaining complex concepts clearly
• Automation-first mindset focused on efficiency and strategic thinking
• Commitment to sound design principles and continuous technical learning
