You'll work day and evening rotating shifts, with scheduled weekend rotations, as part of Hartford HealthCare's integrated network across Connecticut.
About the Role
As a Graduate Nurse in Adult Psychiatry, you'll deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a structured inpatient psychiatric setting. Under the mentorship of experienced RNs, you'll develop core nursing competencies while supporting individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. This position provides hands-on clinical experience essential for your transition from new graduate to confident practitioner.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct patient care including assessments, vital signs monitoring, medication administration support, and documentation
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients while maintaining professional boundaries and safety protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and counselors—to support individualized treatment plans
- Monitor patients for acute changes, side effects, and behavioral concerns; communicate findings promptly to the charge nurse and physicians
- Perform ADL assistance, hygiene support, and daily living activities in a structured therapeutic environment
- Participate in unit rounds, case conferences, and educational opportunities that enhance your psychiatric nursing foundation
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality while using electronic health records
What We're Looking For
- Current New York or Connecticut registered nurse license (RN), or current graduate nurse (GN) permit if recently passed NCLEX
- Active interest in psychiatric and behavioral health nursing
- Strong communication, empathy, and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
- Commitment to ongoing learning and collaborative teamwork
- Ability to work rotating day/evening shifts and every-other-weekend schedules
