Graduate Nurse (GN) – Adolescent Psych

St. Vincent's Medical Center is seeking a full-time Graduate Nurse (GN) specializing in adolescent psychiatry to join our behavioral health team in Darien, Fairfield County. Located at our Westport behavioral health center, this position offers new nurses the opportunity to grow their clinical skills while providing compassionate care to adolescents navigating mental health challenges.

About the Role

As a Graduate Nurse (GN) in our 76-bed inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit, you'll deliver direct patient care within a structured, supportive learning environment. You'll work alongside experienced clinicians and psychiatric nurses who mentor new graduates as they transition from education to practice. This role is ideal for recent nursing graduates seeking to establish their clinical foundation in behavioral health.

What You'll Do

• Provide direct patient care to adolescents ages 12–17 receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment
• Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Support medication administration under supervision and educate patients on psychiatric treatments
• Assist in implementing therapeutic interventions and participating in group activities
• Prioritize patient safety, recognizing and responding to behavioral and mental health crises
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and multidisciplinary treatment teams
• Communicate effectively with families and caregivers throughout the patient's stay
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold professional nursing standards

What We're Looking For

• Current Connecticut nursing license or eligible to obtain a Graduate Nurse (GN) permit
• Recent nursing graduate with BSN or ASN from an accredited program
• Strong communication, patience, and emotional resilience in a psychiatric setting
• Commitment to adolescent mental health and trauma-informed care principles
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
• Willingness to learn and grow under clinical supervision
