Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential deep-tech startup in Stuttgart working on advanced compressor systems for heating and cooling applications. As a working student in R&D, you will contribute to real product development tasks around scroll compressor technology, thermodynamics, and prototype engineering.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working on clearly defined technical questions: understanding requirements, documenting assumptions, comparing solution approaches, and validating results
- Conducting calculations and parameter studies using analytical methods, Python, or appropriate simulation tools
- Supporting CAD development: modeling components and assemblies under supervision, with a focus on design-for-manufacturing principles
- Preparing experiments and analyzing measurement data: structuring test plans, datasets, and experimental results to inform next development steps
- Using AI tools productively for research, calculations, code generation, and documentation—with critical evaluation of outputs
- Creating traceable documentation: recording assumptions, decisions, and results so team members can build on your work
- Learning hands-on in the workshop and test facility: understanding how calculations translate into physical components and how real-world feedback shapes design
You will work closely with senior engineers who will provide technical review and mentorship. As you gain confidence, your level of independence will grow accordingly.
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, Physics, Mechatronics, or a comparable technical degree program
- Solid understanding of technical and physical fundamentals, with genuine curiosity about why solutions work—not just what results tools produce
- Practical experience in at least one area: CAD/design, technical calculations/Python, or experimental work/measurement data analysis (university projects, Formula Student, internships, apprenticeships, or personal projects all count)
- Careful, thorough work style with ability to document assumptions, calculations, and decisions in a traceable manner
- Open to feedback, proactive in asking clarifying questions, and communicative about potential delays or challenges
- Interest in using AI productively while maintaining critical evaluation of outputs
- Fluent German language skills
- Enrollment throughout employment period and reliable availability for minimum 15 hours per week on-site in Stuttgart starting November 2026
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor or comparable CAD software
- Python programming with libraries such as NumPy, SymPy, CoolProp, or TesPy
- Foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, or refrigeration technology
- Exposure to experimental design, measurement data evaluation, or systems engineering
- Interest in compressor technology, heat pumps, pressure equipment, or sustainable energy systems
You don't need to bring everything on the preferred list. We prioritize demonstrated competence in one area and genuine motivation to develop in others.
