About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential real estate investment firm in Berlin that is seeking a Head of Accounting to lead their finance function through a significant organizational transformation. Our client manages institutional real estate portfolios and is transitioning from an owner-managed structure to meeting the regulatory requirements of an ECB-regulated German bank environment.

This is a strategic leadership role where you will drive the restructuring of the finance department, implement new regulatory standards, and build robust internal control systems while managing day-to-day accounting operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the accounting and controlling team, working closely with the finance team of the publicly listed parent company
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with HGB (German GAAP)
• Ensure proper financial accounting including payment processing, accounts receivable management, and compliance with legal and internal requirements
• Prepare monthly reports, analyses, and evaluations for management and executive leadership
• Coordinate and co-develop multi-year financial planning for the group of companies
• Optimize, standardize, and digitalize financial processes, including implementation of digital tools and automation solutions to improve efficiency, transparency, and audit readiness
• Serve as primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors
• Lead the adaptation of finance department structures to meet ECB regulatory standards following a change in ownership
• Implement enhanced reporting, compliance, and governance frameworks

What We're Looking For

• Completed degree in Business Administration with focus on Finance/Accounting or comparable qualification
• Extensive professional experience in financial accounting with strong expertise in HGB reporting, ideally in a leadership capacity
• Professional experience with auditing and/or tax consulting firms is desirable
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, tax law, and working with ERP systems, DATEV, and MS Office
• Practical experience in property or real estate accounting would be advantageous
• Experience with implementing or transitioning accounting systems is also beneficial
• Structured, solution-oriented, and independent working style with strong process orientation
• Recognized leadership personality with demonstrated leadership competence, decision-making strength, team orientation, and excellent communication skills
• Fluency in German is required for this role
