Senior Legal Counsel (Product and Business Development)

Responsibilities

We are representing a global software development organization seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Product and Business Development legal team in Berlin or Munich. This is a strategic role focused on enabling innovation rather than blocking it.

You will advise on the complete life cycle of software products, services, plugins, and AI features—from early-stage concept refinement through to feature retirement. Your work will include implementing legal and regulatory requirements, particularly around AI regulation and consumer protection frameworks.

Day to day, you will draft and negotiate strategic technology, AI partnership, and collaboration agreements. You'll support marketplace initiatives and relationships with third-party platforms, while guiding the legal aspects of educational, academic, and research programs.

A key part of your role involves improving legal operations by designing templates, playbooks, and self-service resources that reduce the need for manual legal review. You'll equip sales and procurement teams with product expertise to help them negotiate customer and vendor agreements more effectively.

You will share knowledge and insights across the legal team and broader business to build awareness around best practices and ensure legal frameworks become enablers of growth rather than bottlenecks.

What We're Looking For

You must hold a formal law degree (LLB, LLM, Mgr, or equivalent) and bring an extensive background advising multinational corporations on technology and commercial law.

We need a proven track record of successfully drafting and negotiating sophisticated commercial and technology agreements, along with a deep understanding of software products, digital services, and technology business models.

Strong candidates demonstrate a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, balancing legal risk with business realities. You should be comfortable making decisions in ambiguous environments, especially regarding novel technologies like AI.

The ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and simply to non-lawyers is essential. You must have fluency in English and the demonstrated ability to negotiate and draft complex legal documents clearly and effectively.

You'll need a strong ownership mentality, seeing matters through from start to finish, and comfort managing multiple complex tasks and stakeholder relationships simultaneously. A collaborative mindset and continuous drive to improve workflows by automating or standardizing routine tasks are critical to success in this role.
