VP, Research

Overview

We are representing a confidential AI research organization at the forefront of developing next-generation multimodal systems. Our client is building foundational technology with applications across robotics, autonomous systems, and interactive simulation. Their research team includes veterans from leading AI labs and autonomous vehicle companies who have contributed to major advances in language models, video generation, and world modeling.

We are seeking a VP of Research to lead the Frontier Research group—the team responsible for pushing the boundaries of what these systems can achieve and establishing new algorithmic proof points.

Responsibilities

• Lead and expand the Frontier Research group, with direct responsibility for hiring, mentoring, and developing researchers across all experience levels
• Own and drive the research agenda spanning world simulation, multimodal learning, robotics, and multi-agent systems
• Define and articulate a research vision that positions the organization as a leading voice in the field and attracts top-tier research talent
• Establish the research roadmap and publication strategy, representing the organization's work to the broader research community
• Collaborate with VP-level peers across disciplines to shape the organization's overall strategic direction
• Balance hands-on technical involvement with leadership responsibilities—this role requires staying close enough to the work to shape it directly

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of research experience with a strong publication record at premier ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, or equivalent venues)
• Deep technical expertise in one or more of: generative video models, world models, multimodal learning, reinforcement learning, or robotics
• Proven track record leading and scaling research teams, including mentoring researchers at all career stages
• Demonstrated ability to establish research directions that influence the field and attract exceptional talent
• Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments; startup or early-stage company experience strongly preferred
• Ability to partner effectively with teams working on foundation models, ML infrastructure, and applied AI initiatives
• Willingness to work in-office 3+ days per week (ideally full-time) in London
• Genuine alignment with the mission of discovering breakthrough capabilities in world modeling—intellectual curiosity alone is not sufficient

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive for VP-level research leadership roles in London.
