About This Position

As a Unit Secretary-Orthopedics 14W, you'll be the organizational backbone of the orthopedic unit during evening hours. This full-time position manages the flow of communication, scheduling, and documentation that enables clinicians to work efficiently and patients to receive seamless care. You'll interact with patients, families, staff, and other departments throughout your shift, making your role highly visible and valued in our Chicago healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer unit phones, direct calls appropriately, and maintain a professional communication hub for the orthopedic team
• Coordinate patient scheduling, appointments, and surgical procedures using hospital systems
• Maintain, organize, and file patient medical records with accuracy and confidentiality
• Enter and update clinical data in hospital information systems
• Welcome patients, families, and visitors; provide information and directions
• Process medical orders, lab requisitions, and clinical documentation
• Support clinical staff with administrative needs including document preparation, copying, and distribution
• Monitor unit supplies and communicate inventory requirements to management

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Competency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn hospital information systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Meticulous attention to detail, especially regarding patient records and confidential information
• Calm, professional demeanor in a high-pace clinical environment
• Reliable availability for consistent evening shift work
• Prior customer service or healthcare experience preferred
