Unit Secretary-Urology & Vascular Surgery 12W Full-time Evenings

Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Unit Secretary to support the Urology & Vascular Surgery team during evening shifts in Chicago, IL. This full-time position provides meaningful administrative work in one of the region's leading academic medical centers.

Position Summary

As a Unit Secretary in Urology & Vascular Surgery, you'll be the administrative center of the clinical unit during evening operations. You'll coordinate patient flow, manage communications, maintain medical records, and provide essential clerical support to surgeons, nurses, and staff members. Your work directly impacts how smoothly the unit operates and how well patients are served.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer telephones and route calls to appropriate clinical and administrative personnel
• Schedule patient appointments, admissions, and discharge procedures
• Organize and file patient medical records and clinical documentation
• Generate and distribute unit reports and interunit communications
• Coordinate with surgical and nursing teams to facilitate patient flow
• Track unit supplies and submit inventory requests
• Input and verify patient information in hospital database systems
• Assist patients during arrival, answer routine inquiries, and support check-in procedures
• Maintain an organized, professional unit workspace

Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Healthcare administrative or clerical experience preferred
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Comfort with computer systems and basic office software
• Ability to work productively in a demanding clinical setting
• Excellent organizational and detail-oriented approach
• Collaborative work style with clinical and administrative staff
• Dependability and willingness to work evening shifts
