Staff Test Engineer

Renesas Electronics is seeking a Staff Test Engineer to join our engineering team in Plano, Texas. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you'll drive testing strategy and execution for our semiconductor products while mentoring junior engineers.

Position Summary

As a Staff Test Engineer at Renesas Electronics in Plano, you'll take ownership of critical testing initiatives across our product lines. This senior-level position combines deep technical expertise in test automation and hardware validation with leadership responsibilities. You'll partner with design and manufacturing teams to develop comprehensive test strategies, establish quality benchmarks, and ensure our devices meet rigorous industry standards. This full-time role offers the opportunity to shape testing methodologies and drive quality excellence across our semiconductor portfolio.

Core Duties

• Design and implement automated test frameworks for semiconductor devices and microcontroller products
• Lead root cause analysis investigations for test failures and quality issues in production and engineering environments
• Develop test specifications and validation protocols aligned with design requirements and industry standards
• Collaborate with hardware design teams to establish testability requirements early in the development cycle
• Mentor and guide junior test engineers on best practices, technical skills, and professional development
• Evaluate and integrate new testing tools, equipment, and methodologies to improve efficiency
• Document test procedures and maintain comprehensive test case libraries for reproducibility and compliance
• Contribute to process improvements and continuous optimization of test coverage and execution

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of test engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in semiconductor or microcontroller testing
• Proficiency in test automation frameworks and scripting languages such as Python, C, C++, or similar
• Strong knowledge of digital and analog circuit testing principles and methodologies
• Hands-on experience with automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, and instrumentation
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical datasheets, and design documentation
• Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
• Leadership experience mentoring and developing technical team members
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to work collaboratively across departments
