Staff+ Software Engineer, Safeguards Infrastructure

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI research organization seeking a Staff+ Software Engineer to build foundational infrastructure for model safety systems. In this role, you will:

• Develop core systems powering safety mechanisms, including infrastructure for data storage and management, metric and evaluation frameworks, and tooling for human and automated review processes
• Ensure operational excellence of safety systems, maintaining high reliability standards that serve both security objectives and end users while minimizing manual intervention requirements
• Build robust, multi-layered defense systems enabling real-time improvement of safety mechanisms that operate effectively at scale

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable professional experience
• Proficiency in Python
• Ability to work across the full technology stack
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering positions
• Experience building trust and safety, anti-spam, fraud detection, or abuse mitigation mechanisms for AI/ML systems
• Experience building metrics and measurement systems or data and privacy management infrastructure
• Track record of collaborating closely with operational teams to build custom internal tooling
• Proficiency in TypeScript or Rust
• Experience with agentic coding tools
