Staff Software Engineer – Backend

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential data infrastructure organization seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Backend to join their Berlin team. Our client builds enterprise-scale platforms that power data and AI workloads for thousands of organizations worldwide. This is a senior individual contributor role where you'll architect and deliver critical backend systems that handle massive scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and build distributed systems that span product and infrastructure layers, including service architecture, monitoring, workflow orchestration, and developer tooling
• Deliver high-performance services and client libraries for storing and accessing large-scale data on cloud storage backends such as AWS S3 and Azure Blob Store
• Build reliable, scalable services using technologies like Scala and Kubernetes, and data pipelines to power infrastructure serving millions of operations daily
• Develop product features that enable customers to manage and control platform usage efficiently
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges at the intersection of infrastructure and product development

What We're Looking For

• BS or higher in Computer Science or a related field
• 7+ years of production-level experience with Java, Scala, C++, or similar languages
• Proven experience developing large-scale distributed systems in production environments
• Background working on SaaS platforms or with Service-Oriented Architectures
• Strong knowledge of SQL
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern backend technologies
