Solution Engineer

Zayo Group is hiring a Solution Engineer to join our team in the United States on a full-time basis. In this role, you'll blend technical expertise with sales acumen, helping our Account Executives win complex network infrastructure deals while designing sophisticated solutions for enterprise and carrier clients.

About the Role

As a Solution Engineer at Zayo Group, you'll bridge the gap between customer needs and our extensive portfolio of fiber-based connectivity and bandwidth services. You'll work alongside sales and engineering teams to translate technical requirements into compelling business solutions, accelerate deal closure, and ensure customer success. This position plays a critical role in our growth strategy, combining hands-on technical design work with team coaching and strategic business development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Account Executives by providing subject matter expertise on Zayo's portfolio of dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access solutions
• Shorten sales cycles by coaching sales staff on positioning and selling Zayo products to carriers, enterprises, and government and education institutions
• Lead the development of Requests for Proposals, crafting cost-effective network architectures that address customer challenges and competitive pressures
• Design and validate end-to-end solutions that meet customer performance requirements, including circuit protection, disaster recovery, and bandwidth scaling
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations that demonstrate command of Zayo's latest offerings and industry best practices
• Synthesize complex technical specifications into clear language that non-technical stakeholders can understand and act on
• Monitor competitive positioning and emerging technologies to inform solution strategy
• Coordinate the documentation, workflow processes, and system entries required to move contracts from design through completion
• Establish realistic timelines and provide status updates to internal stakeholders as projects advance

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Minimum 5 years of technical sales engineering or pre-sales support experience in telecommunications (ISP, CLEC, ILEC, VAR, MSO, or similar environments)
• Hands-on expertise with SD-WAN technology and deployment
• Advanced proficiency with LAN and WAN technologies and architectures
• Ability to create technical drawings and solution diagrams that accurately represent network designs
• Experience developing, delivering, or instructing technical training programs
• Strong presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to executive audiences
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel for proposal development and analysis
• Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and stakeholders in parallel
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, especially translating technical topics for business audiences
• Collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in dynamic, ambiguous environments

Estimated Base Salary Range: $75,500–$100,000 USD annually.
