About This Opportunity
We are representing a fast-growing technology platform in the on-demand services sector. Our client operates at significant scale, connecting consumers with service providers across multiple brands and geographies. They are profitable, scaling rapidly into new verticals, and investing in engineering leadership to support that growth.
As their recruiting partner, Get A Job.ai is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional delivery team of 4-5 engineers. This is a remote role open to candidates based in Latin America.
This is a people-first leadership position. You will own both delivery outcomes and individual contributor development, managing a distributed team across time zones. The organization moves quickly, ships constantly, and expects engineering managers to be AI-forward in how they lead—not just aware of the tools, but actively driving adoption across their teams.
Responsibilities
- People development: Build and execute concrete growth plans for every engineer on your team. Know where each person is headed and what they need to get there.
- Delivery management: Ensure your team ships on cadence with predictable quality. Surface risk early, manage scope, and communicate proactively when commitments are at risk.
- Team health: Address conflict directly and promptly. Manage underperformers through a clear, documented process. Protect and develop top performers.
- Cross-functional partnership: Serve as the primary interface between your team and Product, Design, and other engineering functions. Keep decisions moving forward.
- Technical oversight: Stay close enough to the work to weigh in on system design and catch architectural risks, while avoiding micromanagement.
- AI adoption leadership: Actively introduce AI tools and workflows into your team's operations—code review, documentation, sprint planning, debugging. Set the pace for AI integration, not follow it.
What We're Looking For
Deeply AI-integrated: You've moved well beyond occasional AI usage. You bring new AI workflows to your team, have used tools like Claude to accelerate code review or development processes, and lead AI adoption rather than waiting to be convinced. If your AI experience is limited to "AI-curious" exploration, this likely isn't the right fit.
People developer first: You can provide concrete examples of growth plans you've built, difficult conversations you've navigated, and underperformers you've managed through structured processes. Your 1:1s focus on people, not status updates. If your management examples center mainly on process improvements rather than developing individuals, this may not be the right match.
Remote-native leader: You've successfully led fully remote teams as a default operating mode, not as a pandemic workaround. You know how to build trust without physical proximity, run async decision-making, and prevent distributed team members from feeling isolated.
Direct in conflict: When tension arises—between engineers, between engineering and product, or around performance—you address it quickly and directly. If you tend to let conflicts simmer or have left situations due to unresolved tension, this role will be challenging.
Data-driven: You articulate team performance in metrics, not vibes. You track velocity, retention risk, and IC growth, and you use that data to make decisions.
Technically credible: You stay close enough to the code to earn your engineers' respect through code reviews, architectural input, and debugging support. You don't need to be the strongest engineer in the room, but your team must believe you understand their work.
Delegator, not bottleneck: You build teams that make good decisions without you. You coach engineers toward answers rather than providing them. When you go hands-on, it's deliberate and time-bounded.
This role is NOT: a pure technical architect position, a process documentation role, a stepping stone to IC work, a reactive firefighting job, or a fit for AI skeptics.
