Software Engineer – Python – Container Images

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization that is building a next-generation portfolio of container images designed to simplify application deployment globally. Our client is seeking a Software Engineer with strong Python skills and container expertise to join their distributed engineering team.

This is a remote role open to candidates in APAC, EMEA, LATAM, Canada, and the USA. You'll work on cutting-edge container image technology while collaborating with internal teams and the broader open-source community.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain robust, scalable container images for production use
• Design and implement automated CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, and publishing container images
• Develop tools and testing frameworks for security compliance and cloud-native compatibility assessments
• Participate in code reviews and architectural design discussions
• Contribute to Python- and Go-based container-building tooling as both a user and developer
• Provide technical leadership and feedback for team decision-making processes
• Engage with open-source communities as a subject-matter expert
• Create and maintain documentation and knowledge base resources
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring activities
• Travel up to 15% for team meetings and events

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent experience
• Graduate to mid-senior level software engineering experience
• Strong software development skills with a passion for quality code
• Proven experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Concourse CI, or similar)
• Familiarity with GitOps principles and workflows
• Hands-on experience building container images
• Proficiency with at least one container management/orchestration tool (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Strong Python programming skills
• Linux systems administration and package management experience
• Track record of delivering high-quality software on schedule
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical discussions
• Collaborative mindset and experience working in distributed teams
• Belief in knowledge sharing and open collaboration
