About the Opportunity

We are representing a confidential biotechnology organization in London that is building infrastructure at the intersection of AI and laboratory automation. This is a unique opportunity to work on full-stack product engineering where software directly controls physical laboratory processes.

As a Software Engineer on the product team, you'll work on the internal platform that orchestrates everything from experiment scheduling to execution, data capture, and results processing. You'll be building systems that coordinate multiple laboratory instruments, create APIs for programmatic control of hardware, and develop interfaces that provide real-time visibility into laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the orchestration layer coordinating experiment workflows from design through execution and results analysis
• Create interfaces and APIs that provide real-time visibility into laboratory processes for both human scientists and automated systems
• Develop custom tooling and automation that handles decision-making across the experiment lifecycle, including protocol design and troubleshooting
• Transform proprietary hardware into API-controllable devices that can be operated programmatically
• Design scheduling systems that coordinate multiple laboratory instruments with complex dependencies
• Own significant product areas with direct impact on what gets built and shipped

What We're Looking For

• Production full-stack engineering experience (the client uses TypeScript, React, Node, and Postgres, but adaptability across technologies is most important)
• Strong product instinct demonstrated through shipping features, gathering user feedback, and iterating based on real-world usage
• Comfort working in ambiguous environments—you can scope problems, decide what to prioritize, and create your own implementation plan when specifications are minimal
• Experience leveraging AI development tools effectively while maintaining high engineering standards
• Curiosity about biology and excitement about building software that controls real-world physical experiments (no biology background required)
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of large feature areas
