Software Engineer Linux OS (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

Our talent team is representing a confidential energy technology organization seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Linux OS development. In this role, you will be responsible for the operating system architecture of gateway devices that form the foundation of a secure, stable, and scalable ecosystem.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining a secure, modular Linux operating system for gateway hardware
• Designing and implementing frameworks and interfaces for device fleet monitoring and updates
• Integrating solutions for device identification, authentication, and authorization to ensure maximum security
• Driving Linux OS initiatives forward, independently taking technical developments from concept through successful implementation
• Building the foundational platform that enables applications and contributes to energy infrastructure digitalization

What We're Looking For

We are seeking candidates with:

• Deep knowledge of modern software development workflows including version control with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews
• Substantial experience in Linux operating system development and software architecture design
• Proficiency with tools like Yocto for building and customizing Linux distributions
• Strong expertise in current programming languages, particularly C++ and Python
• Excellent knowledge of Docker and containerization technologies
• Experience with secure system design, including threat modeling methodologies
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative team-player mindset
• Ability to take ownership and responsibility for complex technical initiatives
• Excellent German language skills (written and spoken)
• Capability to maintain oversight of complex systems while actively shaping their evolution

Location: Karlsruhe, Germany (hybrid: 2 days on-site per week, flexible remote work otherwise)
