Software Engineer in Network Infrastructure

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Software Engineer to join their Network Infrastructure team in the Netherlands. Our client is building large-scale GPU compute platforms and needs engineers who can make network operations safe, scalable, and reliable across rapidly expanding data center footprints.

This is not a configuration scripting role. You'll build the tooling and services that bridge the network core (switches, ports, VLANs, traffic processors) and the cloud platform layer, using open source where appropriate and creating custom solutions where gaps exist.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain services and tooling that automate the network lifecycle: day-0 provisioning, day-N changes, drift detection, and operational verification
• Make network changes safe and transparent through CI/CD workflows, diff/review tooling, staged rollouts and rollbacks, audit trails, and guardrails
• Develop observability systems that scale across multiple sites: telemetry pipelines, signal quality monitoring, and tooling that accelerates incident investigations
• Close integration gaps between the network layer and platform: integrate source-of-truth data, expose APIs, and build reliable automation
• Collaborate closely with network engineers and SREs to transform operational challenges into production-quality tooling
• Manage large-scale projects involving multiple stakeholders and break down complex tasks
• Write high-quality code that serves as a reference for the team and contribute to system design
• Participate in hiring and knowledge sharing to mentor other engineers

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent practical background
• Strong coding skills and ownership mindset with a track record of shipping and operating reliable services
• Proficiency in Go or readiness to switch; Python experience is also welcome
• Interest in infrastructure and/or networking (you don't need to be a network expert)
• Strong architectural thinking and ability to assess task priority, focusing on high-impact work
• Authorization to work in the Netherlands

Bonus qualifications:

• Background in networking (former network engineer, CCNP/networking education, data center exposure) or demonstrated ability to learn networking concepts quickly
• Experience building automation or infrastructure tooling: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, testing/staging environments, or "network-as-code" workflows
• Low-level networking or datapath experience: eBPF/XDP, DPDK, kernel networking, traffic processing systems
• Experience designing high-load services and observability platforms (metrics/logs/traces, alerting, regression detection)
• Open source contributions or experience extending/debugging OSS components in production
