Staff Software Engineer – 5G Standalone Core

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential telecommunications company that is building the next generation of cloud-native mobile core infrastructure. As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in 5G Standalone Core, you will take technical ownership of critical network functions that enable global connectivity at scale.

In this role, you will:

• Architect, design, and build software components for a cloud-native 5G Standalone core using C++, Go, or Java—implementing and operating network functions and service-based interfaces
• Own 5G roaming scenarios end-to-end, designing and implementing the signaling and interworking that keep devices connected as they move across networks and borders
• Deploy and operate the 5G core at scale on AWS and Kubernetes, building for high availability, observability, and performance across regions
• Set technical direction and raise engineering standards across teams—mentoring engineers, reviewing designs, and driving decisions on protocols, network functions, and core architecture
• Troubleshoot complex, live telecommunications issues across the stack, from core network protocols down to running services

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Deep, hands-on expertise with the 5G Standalone core: specifications, signaling protocols (service-based interfaces over HTTP/2, Diameter, GTP-C/U), roaming scenarios, and network functions. Experience with the mobile core network domain is essential; RAN technologies experience is not required
• Experience with cloud-native networking, service mesh, and observability for high-throughput distributed systems
• Hands-on software engineering ability—you can architect, design, implement, test, and troubleshoot software components using modern development workflows
• Strong software development experience in at least one of C++, Go, or Java, with a results-oriented mindset and readiness to work across the technology stack
• Experience with large-scale infrastructure deployment and orchestration on AWS and Kubernetes
• Proven experience running telecommunications services at scale in production

Bonus points:

• Background in IoT/M2M connectivity or mobile network operator core network operations
