Lead Transmission Line Engineer – Remote

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential utility consulting organization seeking a Lead Transmission Line Engineer to support their growing transmission engineering practice. This is a fully remote position available throughout the United States.

Our client is passionate about delivering innovative engineering solutions to electric utilities, combining technical rigor with a client-first approach across detailed design, advanced modeling, and analysis projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee complex transmission line designs from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis
• Provide senior-level technical expertise and direction to design staff, ensuring technical accuracy, best practices, and industry-leading design solutions
• Perform key engineering studies including conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and electrical clearance determinations per NESC and applicable standards
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards across project deliverables
• Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change order management
• Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities
• Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews
• Develop and present technical reports and support business development efforts
• Provide mentorship and leadership to less experienced engineers

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field)
• 8+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar)
• 8+ years of experience working with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm
• 8+ years of experience working in PLS-CADD
• People management and mentorship experience
• Experience directing and reviewing the work of others for quality assurance
• Ability to plan and manage assignments and communicate barriers to completing tasks on budget and schedule

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of industry standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, FERC-881, and FAC-008
• Initiative to embrace continuous learning and become an expert in relevant programs and services
