Senior Web Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Senior Web Engineer to join their globally distributed engineering function across the EMEA region. This is a fully remote role working with a team that values transparency, technical excellence, and collaborative innovation.

You will own the development of large-scale projects, drive best practices across engineering disciplines, and mentor engineers while contributing to products used by leading enterprises worldwide. The team meets in person two to four times annually in interesting global locations to align on strategy and execution.

Responsibilities

• Identify priorities for the team and drive initiatives to improve engineering quality and velocity
• Design, implement, test, and document well-architected software solutions
• Debug and resolve issues encountered by end users
• Lead engineering process improvements through code and architectural reviews
• Contribute to technical documentation and establish quality standards
• Seek continuous improvements to engineering and operations practices
• Deploy and operate services developed by the team
• Act as a technical advocate for your product area
• Curate technical quality standards by designing architectural approaches that support business objectives
• Provide comprehensive and insightful code review for projects of any size

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling alternative background
• Exceptional academic track record
• Professional written and spoken English
• Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
• Strong eye for accessibility and performance
• Track record of exceeding expectations and delivering to schedule
• Well-organized, self-starting, and result-oriented approach
• Ability to research and integrate new technologies and modern approaches sustainably
• Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
• Strong communication and presentation capabilities
• Passionate about soft skills and self-motivated to drive initiatives
• Ability to travel twice annually for company events (up to two weeks each)

Valuable additional experience:

• Container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes
• REST API design, development, and governance
• Performance engineering and security best practices
• Experience fostering and maintaining talented engineering teams
