Slovak Sports Localization Specialist (Football)

About This Role

We are representing a confidential client in the language services industry who needs a Slovak Sports Localization Specialist with deep football expertise. This is a remote, freelance opportunity for a linguistic professional who lives and breathes football and can adapt sports content for Slovak audiences with cultural precision and flair.

You'll review, translate, fact-check, and localize football-related content—ensuring it resonates authentically with Slovak fans. This role combines your passion for the beautiful game with your linguistic skills to deliver quality-controlled, culturally adapted sports media.

Responsibilities

• Review, localize, fact-check, translate, and adapt sports content (primarily football) from English (US) to Slovak (Slovakia)
• Apply quality control, translation, copy editing, and machine translation post-editing (MTPE) techniques
• Adhere to style guides and localization guidelines specific to the target market
• Conduct market-specific research on local content trends, football terminology, and best practices for Slovak audiences
• Provide constructive feedback on written content to improve quality and cultural resonance
• Work independently on remote assignments with consistent turnaround

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Skills:

• BS/BA degree and/or 2+ years of professional experience in linguistics, sports journalism, copywriting, or copy-editing
• Extensive football knowledge—you should know the game inside and out
• Experience translating and localizing multimedia content, including machine translation evaluation
• Native-level fluency in Slovak with excellent grammar and writing skills
• Strong creative writing, proofreading, and editing abilities in Slovak
• Tech-savvy with practical knowledge of computers, mobile devices, word processors, and spreadsheets
• Licensed version of MS Office applications
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Bonus Qualifications:

• Published work on sports platforms or media outlets
• Experience with sports media platforms, live score apps, or sports streaming services
• Ability to adapt voice and style for Gen Z audiences, football fan culture, and pop culture trends
