Associate Linux Support Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential client in the open-source software sector. They are seeking an Associate Linux Support Engineer to join a global, distributed team. This is a fully remote position available worldwide, offering the chance to work on complex technical challenges across cloud, desktop, and IoT environments.

You will own customer cases from initial qualification through to resolution, working with cutting-edge technology stacks and collaborating with experts across the industry.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support from your remote home office via telephone, email, and web channels
• Take ownership of new support cases and manage them through to resolution
• Act as a customer advocate, maintaining timely communication and setting appropriate expectations
• Ensure all cases meet Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments with high customer satisfaction
• Create and maintain knowledge base articles to share solutions and lessons learned
• Draft technical notices for both internal and external audiences
• Prioritize work effectively to address urgent and important tasks first
• Continuously learn as products and services evolve
• Collaborate with team members across different time zones and locations
• Identify opportunities to improve service delivery
• Participate in a regular weekend working rotation
• Travel internationally twice a year for team meetings (up to two weeks)

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Strong academic track record from high school and university
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or compelling alternative path)
• Experience with Linux troubleshooting, including log collection, stack traces, and configuration file editing
• Knowledge or hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Linux server administration
  • Programming fundamentals (bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C, C++, or Go)
  • Networking (bonding, firewalling, bridging, switching, NFS tuning, MTU troubleshooting)
  • Virtualization or cloud computing concepts (provisioning, monitoring, orchestration)
• Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Confidence to share ideas and exchange feedback respectfully
• Track record of exceeding expectations to achieve outstanding results
• Appreciation for diversity and effectiveness in multicultural environments
• Result-oriented mindset with commitment to meeting deadlines
• Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, VirtualBox, VMware)
• Experience with open-source desktop technologies
• Active contributions to open-source projects, forums, or code repositories
