Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential quantum computing organization seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to maintain and support the reliability, scalability, and operability of software systems powering advanced quantum hardware. Working in an interdisciplinary environment alongside software engineers, firmware developers, physicists, and hardware engineers, you will gain deep insight into a cutting-edge technical domain.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the reliability of quantum control and program execution infrastructure
  • Supporting the definition and refinement of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational guardrails
  • Implementing and maintaining observability across software, infrastructure, and hardware-adjacent layers
  • Participating in incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analyses for system failures
  • Identifying operational risks and proposing mitigation strategies
  • Driving automation initiatives to reduce toil and improve system stability
  • Maintaining operational standards, runbooks, and documentation
  • Contributing to CI/CD and release processes with a focus on reliability and safe deployments
  • Collaborating with development teams to support production-ready system design

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Systems engineering
  • Experience operating and stabilizing complex systems in production or lab environments
  • Hands-on experience with containerized and orchestrated environments
  • Practical knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling
  • Experience participating in incident response processes
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Ability to reason through engineering trade-offs
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Highly valued experience:

  • Hardware-adjacent, lab, or cyber-physical systems
  • Scientific, research, or experimental environments
  • Strong Python skills for automation and tooling
  • Long-running, stateful workloads
  • Firmware, control systems, or real-time constraints
  • Programmatic device control (e.g. SCPI, serial, USB, TCP/IP)
  • Quantum computing or other deep-tech domains

This is an on-site position in Hamburg, Germany.
