QA Engineer – Quantum Computing (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential quantum computing organization based in Germany. They are building next-generation computing systems from the ground up, and we are seeking a QA Engineer to establish and own the quality function across their full software platform.

This is a greenfield role. You will define testing strategy from scratch, build automation frameworks in code, and integrate quality practices directly into CI/CD pipelines. You will work at the intersection of experimental physics and software engineering, testing everything from compilation services and public APIs to operator interfaces and hardware control systems.

Location: Siegen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end testing approach for the platform: define what to test, at which level, and why
• Write test concepts from scratch covering unit, integration, system, and end-to-end levels, then implement them as running automation
• Build and maintain test automation frameworks in code, integrated into CI/CD pipelines using your chosen tooling
• Perform exploratory and manual testing where automation cannot reach, and define that boundary clearly
• Establish quality gates, coverage expectations, and bug-reporting practices the entire team can adopt
• Collaborate closely with backend, platform, and hardware teams to test at the boundaries where software meets physical systems
• Raise testing literacy across the engineering organization so quality becomes a shared responsibility

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years in software quality assurance with demonstrated ownership of test strategy, not just script execution
• Ability to design a test concept for unfamiliar systems: choosing the right test levels, techniques, and priorities from first principles
• Confident programming skills (Python preferred) to build and maintain automation independently
• Hands-on experience with open-source testing frameworks (e.g., pytest, Playwright, Selenium) and integrating tests into CI/CD
• Solid grounding in testing fundamentals: test design techniques, the test pyramid, API testing, and when to automate versus test manually
• Tool-agnostic, generalist mindset—you select the right approach for the problem
• Ability to collaborate effectively with experimental physicists and engineers
• Strong adaptability and quick learning mindset
• Good proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Bonus:

• Experience establishing a QA function or test strategy in an early-stage or greenfield environment
• Testing distributed systems, APIs, or cloud-native services
• Performance, load, or security testing experience
• Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop or lab/control-software testing
• ISTQB certification or equivalent applied test theory
• Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
