Senior Java Fullstack Developer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public-sector IT organization in Germany. As Senior Java Fullstack Developer, you will support a large-scale project within the tax administration domain, focusing on a platform that orchestrates cross-system business processes.

• Design, model, and implement business processes using BPMN and Camunda workflow engine—from requirements gathering through technical delivery
• Develop and enhance high-performance backend components using Java (17/21) and Spring Boot to support complex, cross-application workflows
• Design and implement interfaces (REST, SOAP, messaging) and coordinate integration with adjacent systems and teams
• Create technical solution designs for system-spanning process flows and integrate them into existing architectures
• Actively contribute to transformation and processing of large data volumes within distributed system landscapes
• Collaborate with project stakeholders in mostly remote settings, with occasional on-site meetings (approximately once monthly in Kaarst)
• Create, execute, and document developer and integration tests to ensure software quality
• Maintain, support, and continuously optimize existing software components in production
• Produce technical documentation including interface specifications, installation guides, and operational manuals

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 7 years practical experience developing backend applications with Java, plus strong knowledge of modern frameworks including Spring and Spring Boot
• Extensive experience building distributed systems and microservice architectures, with confident handling of interface technologies (REST, SOAP, messaging)
• Hands-on experience with BPMN and workflow engines (particularly Camunda), plus solid understanding of business process modeling
• Strong database skills (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA
• Experience working with Linux systems and basic shell scripting capabilities
• Confident use of common development and collaboration tools (Git, Jenkins, Gradle, Jira, Confluence)
• Structured, solution-oriented working style and ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
• Experience in the public sector or large distributed IT system environments is advantageous
• Very good German language skills, both written and spoken (C1 level)
