Senior Java Backend Developer (m/w/d)

Our client is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to join their team working on critical systems for statutory health insurance (GKV) environments. This is a fully remote position based in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance modern backend applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Design, implement, and integrate REST APIs for healthcare systems
• Translate complex business requirements specific to statutory health insurance into robust technical solutions
• Build performant, maintainable software while meeting quality and security standards
• Work with SQL and DB2 databases for processing and managing healthcare data
• Analyze, optimize, and evolve existing applications and components
• Create automated tests and ensure software quality throughout the development lifecycle
• Coordinate technical requirements with business stakeholders, development teams, and project participants
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Several years of experience in Java backend development with strong expertise in Spring and Spring Boot
• Practical project experience with BITMARCK 21c ng
• Experience working within the German statutory health insurance (GKV) environment, ideally with LRB, ELW, or EEL systems
• Solid knowledge of REST web services, SQL, and DB2
• Proven ability to develop secure, reliable software solutions and handle sensitive patient data
• Excellent German language skills, both written and spoken (C2 level)

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with microservices architecture and container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
• Knowledge of Kafka, Liquibase, and modern testing frameworks
• Familiarity with FHIR or other healthcare industry standards
• Experience with agile development methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
