Senior Staff Data Engineer

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer to architect and build enterprise-scale data platforms. This is a remote position within the United States, offering the opportunity to shape modern data ecosystems that power critical healthcare, clinical, and commercial analytics.

Our client operates at the intersection of healthcare innovation and data engineering, requiring sophisticated approaches to managing complex data domains including clinical systems, medical devices, and patient outcomes. You'll be instrumental in establishing the architectural vision and technical standards that enable data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve enterprise data architecture patterns across Azure and Databricks environments
• Establish scalable data ingestion, transformation, and modeling frameworks supporting multi-domain healthcare data
• Drive platform decisions related to performance optimization, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Lead design and implementation of reusable data assets and data products that enable self-service analytics
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex data engineering initiatives from requirements through production deployment
• Design and implement data pipelines supporting diverse healthcare data sources including EHR systems, clinical registries, medical imaging, device telemetry, and patient-reported outcomes
• Define and implement comprehensive data governance, lineage, cataloging, and access-control frameworks
• Ensure compliance with healthcare privacy regulations and security requirements
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineering teams while establishing engineering standards and best practices

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related technical field
• Minimum 6 years of hands-on data engineering and architecture experience

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Deep expertise with Databricks platform including Delta Lake and Unity Catalog
• Strong background with Azure data services: Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and ADLS Gen2
• Proven experience designing scalable data architectures using medallion or lakehouse patterns
• Proficiency with distributed data processing using Spark, SQL, and Python
• Track record architecting and optimizing large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration frameworks
• Experience implementing data governance solutions including metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks
• Knowledge of healthcare data standards, clinical datasets, HIPAA, and healthcare compliance requirements
• Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to balance technical excellence with business pragmatism
