Senior Software Developer (m/f/d) in CI

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential software organization seeking a Senior Software Developer to join their CI team. This is not a role where continuous integration is treated as an afterthought—our client views their Build & Test Platform as a product, with developers as its users. You'll be responsible for designing and building the Bazel-based architecture that supports engineering velocity and quality at scale.

As demands increase year over year—more developers, more tests, higher quality standards—your mission is to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring feedback stays fast, results remain trustworthy, and quality issues are caught before they reach customers.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Bazel setup across multiple concurrently maintained product versions, driving hermeticity, dependency boundaries, and toolchain management
• Plan and execute architectural migrations that improve the system without blocking developers who depend on it daily
• Optimize build and test times through remote caching and execution, monitoring cache hit rates, and designing efficient pipeline architecture
• Develop automation and tooling that enhances developer experience, from build and release tooling to diagnostics that enable developers to understand failures independently
• Collaborate closely with product teams, QA, and the broader CI team to understand real-world workflows and translate pain points into technical roadmaps
• Measure and attack performance bottlenecks systematically

What We're Looking For

• Solid experience with Bazel, especially Platform, Toolchains, and Rules
• Programming experience or openness to working with Python
• Strong Linux command line knowledge for efficient navigation and troubleshooting
• Interest in working within an open-source environment
• Strong background in CI/CD pipelines and ability to design build systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python and Bash
• Understanding of dependency management, caching, and distributed builds
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker
• Experience with monorepos and large-scale codebase management is a plus
• Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across teams
• Fluent communication in English
