Senior Security Engineer, Platform Engineering

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure organization seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join their Platform Engineering team in Sydney. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of platform security across cloud and on-premises environments serving high-performance computing workloads.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading platform security initiatives by assessing risks, hardening systems, and ensuring secure access controls for distributed infrastructure
• Owning security standards for managed Kubernetes environments supporting GPU-accelerated compute clusters
• Applying Kubernetes security best practices including RBAC, admission controllers, pod security policies, auditing, and network segmentation
• Implementing supply chain security measures such as container image signing, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement
• Securing infrastructure as code pipelines through automated security scanning and validation
• Automating patch management workflows for platform components with thorough testing protocols
• Experimenting with AI/ML-powered security tools to accelerate threat detection and proactive response to configuration drift or anomalies
• Collaborating cross-functionally to enhance the organization's security posture across automated compliance, secrets management, identity and privileged access management, encryption solutions including SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management, security monitoring, incident response, and engineering team awareness programs

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• 7+ years of experience as a Platform Security Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer with security focus
• Strong proficiency with security standards and frameworks including CIS Benchmarks, NIST, ISO 27001, and SOC 2
• Deep knowledge of OWASP Top 10 security risks for applications and cloud-native infrastructure
• Demonstrated expertise in Kubernetes security and networking best practices using tools such as Calico, kube-bench, or Falco
• Experience with Kubernetes supply chain security tools like Cosign, Trivy, or Kyverno
• Hands-on experience with automated IaC security scanning platforms such as Checkov or Snyk
• Proficiency with secrets management solutions like HashiCorp Vault or Azure Key Vault
• Experience implementing Identity Access Management and Privileged Access Management using platforms such as Auth0, Microsoft Entra, HashiCorp Boundary, or Teleport
• Strong understanding of SSL/TLS certificate management including automated issuance, renewal, deployment, and monitoring
• Competent scripting and programming skills in languages such as Bash, Python, or Go
• Solid systems knowledge covering Linux internals, networking stacks, and distributed storage architectures
• Clear and effective English communication skills, both written and spoken
• Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CKS, OSCP, or cloud platform security credentials (GCP/AWS/Azure)

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience in high-growth technology environments or regulated industries with robust security and data privacy requirements including SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, or HIPAA
• Experience applying security principles specifically to AI/ML operations environments
