Senior Machine Learning Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded AI technology company that is expanding its Berlin R&D operations. Our client is building cutting-edge AI solutions and is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join their growing machine learning team in Berlin.

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin, offering the chance to be part of a founding R&D team in the region and work on production ML systems that directly impact customers.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities where machine learning can create measurable customer value
• Define the appropriate ML framing for product challenges in collaboration with product and design teams
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and research to deeply understand problem domains
• Research and select appropriate algorithms and tools, balancing pragmatism with innovation
• Perform offline evaluation and gather evidence that proposed solutions will work in production
• Partner with ML engineers to rapidly prototype and ship models to production, often within weeks
• Design experiments, measure impact, and share learnings to inform iteration
• Collaborate across disciplines to build excellent ML products

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3-5 years of applied machine learning experience
• Broad applied ML knowledge across multiple domains
• Practical statistics knowledge including experiment design and handling confounding variables
• Intermediate programming skills
• Strong communication abilities within engineering teams and across disciplines
• Comfort working with ambiguity
• Advanced degree in ML or related field (typically MSc or equivalent)
• Scientific thinking and problem-solving skills

Bonus qualifications:

• Track record of shipping ML products to production
• PhD or research environment experience
• Deep expertise in NLP, deep learning, Bayesian methods, reinforcement learning, or clustering
• Strong statistics or mathematics background
• Data visualization skills with tools like SQL, matplotlib, etc.
