About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential automotive technology client seeking a Machine Learning Staff Engineer to join their advanced driver assistance systems team in Berlin. This is a high-impact technical leadership role where you will drive algorithmic innovation in spatial awareness and scene understanding for next-generation in-vehicle intelligence.

You will architect and implement state-of-the-art machine learning models that transform multi-sensor vehicle data and real-time 3D map information into semantically rich environmental representations. This position combines deep technical ownership with mentorship in a fast-moving, data-driven AI environment focused on modern transformer architectures and end-to-end learning approaches.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical roadmap for physical AI algorithms, including reinforcement learning with world models
• Design, implement, and optimize vision transformer models for 3D scene understanding, including Gaussian Splatting, diffusion models, object detection, multi-object tracking, semantic segmentation, and occupancy modeling
• Architect multi-modal fusion systems combining camera, LiDAR, and RADAR data to construct 3D environmental representations
• Evaluate and implement end-to-end learning approaches to replace traditional perception pipelines where appropriate
• Apply advanced ML techniques including transformers, representation learning, and large-scale models to improve system performance
• Lead structured experimentation and benchmarking initiatives to deliver measurable accuracy and robustness improvements
• Translate cutting-edge research into production-ready, scalable machine learning solutions
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to perception engineers on the team

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of professional experience in machine learning, vision transformers, diffusion models, or computer vision
• Deep expertise in modern deep learning architectures and their application to real-world problems
• Strong hands-on proficiency with PyTorch or equivalent ML frameworks
• Demonstrated experience building and iterating on large-scale machine learning models
• Solid mathematical foundations in optimization and probabilistic modeling
• Proven track record of delivering measurable performance improvements in ML systems
• Experience guiding technical decisions and direction within engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background in autonomous systems or robotics perception
• Publications or patents in machine learning or perception domains
• Experience with 3D data representations such as Gaussian splatting, point clouds, bird's-eye view, or voxel grids
• Familiarity with 3D engines like Unity
• Experience with large-scale training infrastructure or foundation models
• Track record mentoring engineers in advanced ML topics
