Senior Generative AI Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology client in London who is seeking a Senior Generative AI Engineer to build production-grade AI applications and agentic workflows that deliver measurable business value.

In this role, you will:

• Own AI features end to end, from ambiguous problem definition through to reliable, observable systems that real customers depend on
• Build retrieval and data foundations for AI features, treating retrieval quality as a first-class engineering problem
• Design evaluation and monitoring approaches that make quality, reliability and safety measurable
• Build AI applications and agents using LLMs, orchestration, APIs and data systems with solid production software practices
• Make technical decisions on models, cost and latency that shape feature economics, documenting reasoning for team visibility
• Prototype quickly, identify reusable patterns, and harden successful approaches into components the team adopts
• Raise quality standards through code review, design feedback and leading by example
• Represent technical decisions directly to product managers and stakeholders, translating model behaviour into business impact

What We're Looking For

You should have:

• Proven experience shipping AI or ML systems that real users depend on, with direct exposure to production environments
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with genuine hands-on experience assembling grounding data, building golden datasets, and debugging failures
• Deliberate investment in software engineering craft: testing, error handling, CI/CD, observability, and MLOps practices
• Hands-on experience across the GenAI stack: LLM APIs, retrieval and vector stores, agents with tool use, structured outputs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP preferred)
• A clear point of view on evaluation, ideally informed by real-world experience with systems that appeared sound but weren't
• Ability to reason about model failures including hallucination and prompt injection, and their implications for end users
• Judgment to know when to reach for a model, when simpler solutions suffice, and when to stop
• Track record as a constructive code reviewer who elevates colleagues' work
