About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential independent game studio in their search for a Senior Game Designer. This is a remote position based in the United States, working with a lean, agile team on an upcoming PC simulation title. The studio operates with high autonomy and has a proven track record of successful releases in the gaming space.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in setting creative direction for the game, including establishing game pillars, core design elements, and progression systems
  • Develop simulation systems that blend player psychology expertise with mathematical logic to create interlocking mechanics and emergent gameplay
  • Execute end-to-end design implementation, from paper prototyping and technical development through balancing and testing
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with team members to deliver design solutions
  • Build and maintain complex automated spreadsheets to simulate, balance, and validate progression curves and resource economies
  • Implement designs directly in Unity engine and partner with engineers to develop custom tools

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of game design experience, including shipping at least one title from early prototype through launch
  • Expertise in systems design with proven ability to architect dynamic rule sets rather than linear scripts
  • Deep understanding of how game variables interact and cascade to create emergent gameplay experiences
  • Strong grasp of player psychology and what motivates engagement
  • Advanced skills in building mathematical models and simulation spreadsheets for game economies and progression
  • Hands-on proficiency with Unity engine and ability to implement designs directly
  • Working knowledge of game engine systems and ability to collaborate with engineers on tooling
