About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential enterprise software organization at the forefront of AI-driven commerce innovation. Our client is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the design, development, and adoption of production AI systems within a strategic business domain.

This is a unique opportunity to combine deep AI engineering expertise with product and business acumen, driving measurable outcomes and architectural excellence. You'll serve as the AI technical lead for your domain—whether Sales & Marketing, Finance & Legal, or another critical area—shaping roadmaps, mentoring teams, and accelerating AI transformation across the organization.

Location: Paris or Bordeaux, France (4 days on-site per week)

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy for your assigned business domain, identifying high-value AI opportunities in partnership with business leaders
• Define the technical vision and product roadmap for AI agent development within your domain
• Design and build production-grade AI systems, including LLM-based applications, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent architectures
• Drive architectural decisions ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability of AI solutions
• Work directly with end users to drive adoption, measure outcomes, and iterate based on real-world feedback
• Establish technical excellence through best practices for evaluation, testing, guardrails, and observability
• Review system designs and mentor AI engineers and agent builders across the organization
• Build reusable components and share knowledge to grow AI capability company-wide
• Deliver measurable business impact through AI initiatives while maintaining high technical quality standards

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, ML Engineering, or Applied AI roles
• Strong hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, and production AI systems
• Proven ability to influence product and business decisions through technical leadership
• Demonstrated success leading complex cross-functional initiatives from conception to production
• Expertise with the modern AI stack: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, or open-source models
• Proficiency with agentic frameworks and retrieval tools such as LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, and vector databases
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), Docker, and Kubernetes
• Excellence in system design, evaluation methodologies, and production ML operations
• Passion for mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across teams

Pay

The annual gross salary range for this position is €90,000 – €100,000, determined based on your experience, skills, and the scope of responsibilities. This figure reflects the client's compensation structure and will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
