About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an exceptional Director of Product Design to lead design strategy across critical payment systems serving millions of customers. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of digital banking experiences at a company known for reimagining how people interact with their money.

Our client operates at significant scale with a design-led culture, where product design plays a central role in defining both customer experience and business direction. As Director of Product Design, you'll lead a team of talented designers working on payment infrastructure and customer-facing experiences across multiple markets.

This role is based in Cardiff with flexible remote working options across the UK. UK visa sponsorship and relocation support are available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive design vision and strategy for payment products across a multi-market fintech platform
• Partner with senior leadership in Product and Engineering to shape product roadmaps and translate business strategy into exceptional customer experiences
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Product Designers, investing in their professional development and career growth
• Establish and maintain an exceptional quality bar across all design deliverables through coaching, critique, and hands-on guidance
• Champion design thinking across the organization, elevating design's influence on product strategy and company culture
• Navigate complexity and ambiguity, helping teams move from strategic vision to high-quality execution
• Foster a culture of openness, craft excellence, and continuous improvement within your design organization

What We're Looking For

• Proven track record leading design strategy and vision across complex, multi-faceted product areas in consumer fintech or banking
• Demonstrated ability to operate strategically while maintaining excellence in execution and craft
• Strong partnership skills with Product, Engineering, Research, and Commercial teams, with experience influencing senior stakeholders
• Clear point of view on product design excellence, systems thinking, and customer-centered design principles
• Extensive experience building and leading high-performing design teams, creating environments where designers thrive and deliver exceptional work
• Track record of scaling design influence across an organization, shaping not just products but ways of working and organizational culture
• Passion for making financial services more accessible, intuitive, and human
• Experience designing payment experiences, transaction flows, or financial products strongly preferred
