About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics client in Munich that is bringing advanced manipulation technology from concept to industrial deployment. This is a rare opportunity to join a well-funded deep-tech organization at the critical transition from development to production scale.

As a Senior Electronics Engineer focused on Hardware & Firmware, you will own the complete embedded stack for sophisticated electromechanical systems—from high-density PCB design through real-time control firmware. Your work will directly enable robotic systems to operate reliably in demanding industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own hardware architecture including schematics and multilayer PCB layouts for space-constrained, mixed-signal systems with tight thermal and EMC requirements
  • Develop and integrate compact servo drive electronics including motor drivers, actuator control hardware, and deterministic real-time firmware in C/C++
  • Select, evaluate, and integrate sensor systems for tactile sensing and proprioception; design low-noise readout circuits, signal conditioning, and calibration pipelines
  • Build field-updatable bootloaders, low-level drivers, and secure firmware update mechanisms across product generations
  • Implement and maintain industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CANopen, Ethernet) integrated with higher-level control systems
  • Lead lab bring-up and validation from first power-on through full system testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and thermal imaging
  • Support Cyber Resilience Act compliance through secure boot, signed updates, and hardware-level security mechanisms
  • Drive design for manufacturing and test (DFM/DFT), component selection with supply-chain resilience, and EMC pre-compliance through production ramp
  • Collaborate across mechanical, software, and applications teams to translate system requirements into robust electronics solutions

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field
  • 5–10 years developing embedded hardware and firmware for mechatronic products, with at least one product taken to series production
  • Proven expertise in schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout (Altium, KiCad, or similar) for space-constrained, mixed-signal designs
  • Strong C/C++ programming on bare-metal or RTOS platforms (ARM Cortex-M or similar) with deep understanding of timing, concurrency, and register-level control
  • Hands-on experience with BLDC/DC motor driver design and current/velocity/position control loops
  • Strong hardware debugging skills: comfortable with lab bring-up, signal integrity analysis, and troubleshooting with test equipment
  • Fluent English required; German is beneficial but not mandatory

Bonus qualifications:

  • Experience with miniature electronics, high-density PCB packaging, or challenging thermal constraints
  • Background with tactile, force/torque, or contact-rich sensor arrays
  • Knowledge of real-time industrial fieldbuses (EtherCAT, CANopen)
  • Familiarity with product security frameworks: secure boot, signed firmware, CRA, IEC 62443
  • Understanding of functional safety standards (Machinery Regulation, ISO/TS 15066)
