Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software company in the industrial sector, and our talent team is seeking a Backend Engineer to drive a major platform transformation. You will actively shape the evolution from a monolithic portal to a cleanly structured, Domain-Driven Design-based platform.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Architecture Transformation: Identify and extract bounded contexts from the existing portal, rebuilding them as independent gRPC APIs following Clean Architecture principles (Presentation → Application → Domain ← Infrastructure)
• Domain-Driven Design Implementation: Develop new and existing domains according to DDD principles, working with Aggregates, Domain Events, and Ubiquitous Language
• API Design: Design Proto/gRPC interfaces and coordinate between bounded contexts, including shared-kernel types and versioning via buf
• Platform Infrastructure: Co-develop shared infrastructure and contribute to architectural decisions regarding Context Maps, upstream/downstream relationships, anti-corruption layers, and tenant/authorization isolation
• Collaborative Migration: Work closely with portal and frontend teams to roll out migrations incrementally without loss of functionality
• Quality Assurance: Ensure code quality and test coverage for new services from day one

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a candidate with:

• Backend Development Expertise: Multiple years of experience with.NET/C# and relational databases (PostgreSQL). Supabase knowledge is a plus
• Architectural Mindset: Practical experience with Clean Architecture and/or Domain-Driven Design, or a strong interest in deepening expertise in these areas
• API Experience: Hands-on work with gRPC/Protobuf or comparable API technologies (REST). Familiarity with the buf tool is advantageous
• Infrastructure Knowledge: Understanding of microservice/bounded-context architectures and the challenges of monolith-to-services migrations, plus experience with Docker and CI/CD (GitLab)
• Working Style: Structured, self-directed approach. You seek genuine influence over architectural decisions rather than a purely coding role
• Language Skills: Fluent German and English

Location: Erkelenz, Germany. Hybrid model with 3 days on-site and 2 remote days per week.
