We are representing a confidential energy technology company that is building innovative solutions in Europe's rapidly evolving electricity markets. As they develop new products and enter strategic partnerships, they need an exceptional legal professional to establish and lead their legal function from the ground up.

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-funded, early-stage company operating at the intersection of energy markets, consumer technology, and regulatory compliance. You will have full ownership of the legal function and work directly with leadership on critical business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead the legal function, determining what to handle in-house versus engaging specialist external counsel
• Lead negotiations and draft contracts with partners, grid operators, and service providers
• Own regulatory compliance and consumer protection, staying ahead of changes that impact products and business strategy
• Manage legal aspects of financing rounds, employment matters, and technology agreements
• Build scalable contracts, templates, and processes to support rapid company growth
• Assess how new products and partnerships create legal obligations across the business, including household agreements, partner contracts, and software requirements
• Coordinate with specialist counsel where needed while maintaining ownership of overall legal strategy

What We're Looking For

• German state exam (Staatsexamen) or equivalent legal qualification
• Proven experience handling complex legal work in energy, another heavily regulated industry, or a high-growth company
• Exceptional attention to detail—you read definitions, cross-references, and exceptions that others overlook
• Ability to spot how small wording changes create different obligations and think through practical implications
• Strong judgment and the ability to clearly explain your legal recommendations and reasoning
• Fluent in both German and English, with the ability to negotiate and draft precise legal documents in either language
• Experience building legal processes from scratch or in early-stage environments is highly valued

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and will be competitive for an early-stage legal leadership role in the Berlin market. As an early team member, you will also participate in meaningful equity upside.
