Senior Design Manager (Infrastructure)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization in their search for a Senior Design Manager to lead their Infrastructure Design team. This is a fully remote position based in the EMEA region, reporting into a globally distributed design function.

In this role, you will manage a team of designers who create tools and experiences for developers and cloud engineers. You'll be responsible for ensuring design quality, supporting professional growth within your team, and collaborating closely with engineering stakeholders to deliver products that power cloud infrastructure and software distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Review and elevate the quality of work produced by your design team
• Coach individual designers and support their professional development
• Improve operational workflows, including production outsourcing and collaboration with engineering teams
• Partner with engineering stakeholders to define and validate product outcomes
• Evolve design systems and guidelines to drive consistency and efficiency
• Coordinate with design leadership to mature the collective practice
• Foster culture by bringing teams together to share work and insights
• Engage with the open-source community to understand needs and communicate value
• Own team deadlines and ensure transparent project delivery

What We're Looking For

• Portfolio demonstrating outstanding UX design quality and technical understanding
• Exceptional educational background in design or related behavioral science discipline
• Full lifecycle design experience from user research through validation and implementation
• Proven experience managing a design team that works with technical stakeholders
• Strong commitment to transparent delivery and deadline management
• Familiarity with quantitative optimization approaches
• Ability to balance consistency with innovation
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for team events
• Excellent communication and active listening skills
• Experience in deeply technical domains (infrastructure, developer tools, or cloud systems)
