(Senior) AI Product Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential legal-tech organization based in Berlin that is seeking a Senior AI Product Engineer to drive AI innovation across their product portfolio. In this role, you will identify high-impact AI opportunities, build them from concept to production, and serve as the technical AI authority for product teams.

Approximately half your time will be spent on independent AI projects:

• Identify and validate AI opportunities in legal workflows through rapid prototyping and stakeholder discussions
• Build production-ready solutions including routing, chaining, summarization, and agent-based systems
• Deliver complete features with documentation, evaluations, and handover plans to product squads

The other half of your time will support existing product teams:

• Provide guidance on feasibility, costs, model selection, and risk assessment before feature launches
• Design and implement evaluations, golden datasets, and guardrails for AI systems
• Review concepts for prompt injection vulnerabilities and compliance requirements
• Advance AI best practices including prompt engineering standards, LLM observability, and agent-based workflows

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Technical Skills:

• Proven track record shipping multiple production AI/LLM systems to real users with full ownership from problem identification to deployment
• Strong Python skills with solid software engineering foundations including Git, testing, CI/CD, and code review practices
• Deep experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar frameworks with understanding of underlying mechanics
• Proficiency with LLM provider APIs including function/tool calling, structured outputs, and streaming
• Experience implementing evaluations, golden datasets, and guardrails before production deployment
• Advanced prompt engineering skills with knowledge of when to apply specific techniques
• Business-level English required; German is a significant advantage given the legal domain

Professional Qualities:

• Ability to work independently, set priorities, and know when to decline requests
• Skill translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and vice versa
• Mature approach to work (note: "senior" refers to working style, not necessarily years of experience)
