Senior Underwriter, Transactional Surety

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential insurance organization seeking a Senior Underwriter to join their Transactional Surety division. This role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of commercial surety products while building strategic relationships with agents and brokers nationwide. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where analytical rigor meets business development, helping drive profitable growth across multiple bond types.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite transactional commercial surety submissions including motor vehicle dealer bonds, license and permit bonds, subdivision bonds, court bonds, and specialty bond products
• Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and supporting documentation to assess risk and determine appropriate pricing and terms
• Manage a high-volume book of business while maintaining strong turnaround times and service standards
• Build and maintain productive relationships with agency partners to drive submission flow and market share growth
• Negotiate terms, pricing, and commission structures while maintaining underwriting discipline
• Monitor portfolio performance to ensure profitability, retention, and appropriate risk diversification
• Support new business development by identifying target agencies and participating in industry networking opportunities
• Ensure compliance with internal underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and state-specific bond obligations
• Partner with internal teams including claims, legal, compliance, and operations to support business objectives

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of experience in commercial surety underwriting with a focus on transactional business
• Established relationships within the surety agency and broker community
• Proven track record underwriting diverse bond types such as motor vehicle dealer, subdivision, license and permit, court, and specialty bonds
• Strong understanding of credit analysis, risk assessment, and financial statement review
• Demonstrated ability to manage high submission volume while maintaining underwriting quality
• Experience negotiating terms and pricing in competitive markets
• Knowledge of state-specific bonding requirements and regulatory environment preferred
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
• Relationship-driven approach with strong customer service orientation
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000, determined by experience, skills, location, and qualifications. This role may also be eligible for performance-based incentives.
