(Senior) AI Product Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential legal-tech organization seeking a Senior AI Product Engineer to drive AI innovation across multiple product teams. You will spend approximately half your time identifying and building high-impact AI opportunities in legal workflows where no specific squad currently owns the domain. You'll rapidly validate ideas through discussions with domain experts and quick prototyping, then bring winning solutions into production yourself—including routing, chaining, summarization, and agent-based workflows. Once features mature, you'll hand them off to product squads with complete documentation, evaluations, and transition plans.

The other half of your time will be dedicated to supporting existing product squads as their AI subject-matter expert. You'll provide feasibility assessments, cost analysis, model selection guidance, and risk evaluation before any AI feature launches. You'll help teams design evaluations, build golden datasets, and implement guardrails. You'll also review concepts for security concerns including prompt injection and compliance requirements relevant to European legal regulations. Additionally, you'll advance organizational AI capabilities by establishing prompt engineering standards, LLM observability practices, and agent-based development workflows.

What We're Looking For

Required Technical Experience:

• Multiple production-ready AI/LLM systems shipped to real users with full ownership—prototypes alone do not qualify
• Demonstrated product ownership from vague problem definition through to finished, deployed solution
• Strong Python skills with solid software engineering fundamentals: Git, testing, CI/CD, and code review processes
• Deep hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar frameworks, including understanding of underlying mechanisms
• Proficiency with LLM provider APIs including function/tool calling, structured outputs, and streaming
• Experience designing and implementing evaluations, golden datasets, and pre-deployment guardrails
• Advanced prompt engineering knowledge with understanding of when to apply specific techniques
• Business-level English required; German is a significant advantage given the legal domain

Professional Qualities:

• Maturity to work independently without constant squad support—you set priorities and know when to decline requests
• Ability to translate technical trade-offs for non-technical stakeholders and explain domain workflows to engineers
• Senior-level approach to work regardless of years in industry

Location and Work Arrangement
