Security Operations Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Security Operations Manager based in London. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll build security operations capability from the ground up, designing detection and monitoring systems, incident response processes, and deciding the right balance between in-house capabilities and outsourced support.

You'll work closely with site reliability engineering teams to create lean, practical security processes that integrate seamlessly with existing operational workflows. This is a collaborative position that avoids siloed security practices in favor of building sustainable, effective defenses.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement security detection and monitoring across the platform and IT infrastructure, including tooling, dashboards, and log sources for rapid investigation
• Determine the appropriate mix of internal capabilities and outsourced monitoring or response services, and manage those vendor relationships
• Establish alert handling, ownership, and escalation procedures, beginning with working-hours coverage
• Lead security incident response efforts, including developing playbooks for likely scenarios, maintaining centralized documentation, and conducting regular practice exercises
• Collaborate with reliability teams on resilience and recovery initiatives, including backup strategies, restore testing, and disaster recovery exercises
• Triage vulnerabilities discovered in running systems and infrastructure into a shared tracking system
• Conduct exercises that test and continuously improve organizational defenses

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Proven experience building or leading security operations or detection and response functions, particularly in greenfield environments where you established processes from scratch
• Strong foundation in detection and monitoring, including logging, alerting, and building effective detections
• Demonstrated experience leading incident response, including playbook development, exercise facilitation, and post-incident learning
• Highly collaborative approach with real experience working alongside site reliability or platform engineering teams and sharing tooling effectively
• Experience selecting and managing outsourced monitoring or response providers
• Practical, measured approach to security that maintains appropriate perspective
• Willingness to explore AI applications in security monitoring and response, with pragmatism about where it genuinely adds value

Preferred background:

• Built security operations capability in a scale-up environment
• Worked in fintech, insurtech, or other regulated industries
• Experience with detection and response in cloud-based environments
• Facilitated tabletop or disaster recovery exercises
• Experience with offensive and defensive testing to strengthen defenses
