About This Role
We are representing a confidential client in the community technology space, and our talent team is searching for a Product Designer who operates at the intersection of design craft and rigorous experimentation. This is not a role where you hand off mockups and move on. You will design features, define hypotheses, ship tests, analyze results yourself, and decide what stays or goes based on evidence.
You will be embedded within a product delivery team, working directly with engineering and business leadership. English is the working language, and German fluency is important—you will be designing experiences for German-speaking users. This is a hybrid role based in Berlin.
Responsibilities
- Design user experiences that align with how people naturally behave, avoiding unnecessary feature bloat
- Frame ambiguous problems clearly before jumping to solutions—half the work is defining what to solve
- Run end-to-end experiments: design the test, instrument it, analyze the data with the data team, and report findings honestly, including failed tests
- Conduct qualitative research with real users to understand needs that metrics alone cannot surface
- Use AI tooling to generate first-pass design work, then apply your judgment to refine, reject, or redirect output
- Advocate for simplicity—decide what should be removed, not just what can be added
- Present work clearly, defend decisions under scrutiny, and collaborate across functions
What We're Looking For
Must have:
- Strong design practice combined with comfort working with quantitative data
- Technical capability: able to build dashboards, query data, use experimentation platforms and design system tools independently
- Self-sufficiency with data—SQL, AI-assisted querying, or both—so you do not depend on others to pull numbers
- Proven experience running experiments end to end: hypothesis through analysis and decision-making
- High attention to craft and detail—you know the difference between "good enough" and truly good
- Experience with or strong interest in using AI as a design and analysis tool
- Excellent English communication skills
- Portfolio that demonstrates impact: at least one case study showing hypothesis, design, result, and learning—evidence of how data and experimentation shaped your work
Nice to have:
- Experience with marketplace, community, or network-effect products
- Strong German language skills or confidence designing in German with support
- Design system contribution or maintenance experience
- Ability to write SQL without AI assistance
