Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential search technology organization seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join their globally-distributed Search Infrastructure team. In this senior technical leadership role, you will define and drive the evolution of core search and indexing capabilities for a large-scale distributed search platform.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical vision and direction for core search infrastructure, including indexing, retrieval, and relevance systems
• Researching advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms to ensure optimal efficiency and performance
• Leading and contributing to the development of next-generation search capabilities
• Working closely with product teams and partners to understand requirements and shape long-term technical vision
• Serving as a technical authority in multiple areas of the search platform, continuously improving systems through expert insights
• Driving an innovative roadmap for indexing, query execution, and relevance layers
• Collaborating across distributed teams to guide projects from concept to completion

What We're Looking For

Our client needs an exceptionally experienced search infrastructure engineer with the following qualifications:

• Proven experience leading technical projects in search infrastructure and distributed systems
• Deep hands-on expertise with search and indexing technologies such as Lucene, Solr, or similar platforms
• Track record of building and operating sophisticated, large-scale search platforms
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and providing technical and professional guidance
• Demonstrated ability to define long-term technical vision and work across teams to shape technical roadmaps
• Strong Java skills with deep understanding of advanced data structures, concurrency, and modern language features
• Passion for optimization and leveraging efficient algorithms and search data structures
• High level of autonomy in tackling complex projects and driving them to completion
• Experience with distributed storage engines and understanding of large-scale data systems architecture
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across distributed teams

Bonus qualifications:

• Previous experience building applications with enterprise search platforms
• Background in search and information retrieval theory
• Experience contributing to open source projects and familiarity with collaborative development workflows
