Principal Engineer, Router Architect

Renesas is seeking a full-time Principal Engineer, Router Architect in Tarrytown, Travis County to architect the core data routing systems that enable next-generation automotive intelligence and autonomous driving platforms.

The Opportunity

As Principal Engineer, Router Architect at Renesas, you'll lead the design of ultra-reliable, high-bandwidth routing architectures that serve as the nervous system of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle platforms. This role offers the chance to shape the technical foundation of Zonal and Central Compute automotive architectures—foundational technologies that directly influence how data flows through mission-critical autonomous driving systems. You'll work at the forefront of automotive computing innovation, architecting Ethernet routing engines and PCIe subsystems that form the core data fabric connecting vehicle sensors, processors, and control systems.

Core Duties

• Architect high-bandwidth Ethernet routing engines optimized for automotive data fabric requirements
• Design and specify PCIe subsystem architectures meeting automotive reliability and performance standards
• Define technical specifications and protocols for Zonal and Central Compute platforms
• Lead cross-functional technical strategy for next-generation vehicle computing infrastructure
• Evaluate, recommend, and validate technologies and design patterns for ultra-reliable automotive networking
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software teams to integrate routing systems into vehicle platforms

What We're Looking For

• 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in systems architecture, networking infrastructure, or embedded computing
• Deep expertise in Ethernet protocol design, router architecture, and data fabric systems
• Proven track record with PCIe systems design and automotive-grade reliability requirements
• Strong understanding of Zonal and Central Compute automotive architectures and autonomous driving system design
• Demonstrated leadership on complex technical initiatives and experience working across distributed engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field
