About the Role

This position serves the 24‑bed Neuroscience unit, which focuses on patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions such as stroke, post‑operative craniotomy, seizure disorders, and traumatic brain injuries. Nurses provide continuous assessment, intervene promptly to changes in neurologic status, and support recovery through evidence‑based practices while working the third shift.

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments and monitor vital signs for neuro‑spine patients.
• Administer prescribed medications, including anticoagulants, antiepileptics, and pain management agents.
• Monitor postoperative neurosurgical patients for complications such as bleeding, increased intracranial pressure, or infection.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and ancillary staff to implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Respond to emergencies, initiate rapid response protocols, and perform life‑saving interventions as needed.
• Educate patients and families about disease processes, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Participate in shift handoffs, quality improvement initiatives, and unit‑based education sessions.

What We're Looking For

• Active Registered Nurse license issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a neuro, med‑surg, or critical care setting.
• Strong proficiency in neuro‑specific assessment tools (e.g., NIH Stroke Scale, Glasgow Coma Scale).
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks during high‑acuity night shifts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork and patient education.
